Elizabeth Houston had given birth to an illegitimate daughter, Annie Torrance Houston, on 28 Feb 1889. The middle name of Torrance may be an
indication of the father. In the 1891 Census Annie Houston appears as the adopted daughter of Elizabeth Houston’s parents William Houston and Anne
Houston (née McCrae).
Four months after the marriage of Archibald Torrance and Elizabeth Houston, William Croel Houston Torrance was born in Hurlford, followed by two
more children.
