Grace Howat (1853 - 1900) Grace Howat was born 30 Apr 1853 in Galston, Ayrshire. She was the ninth of eleven children born to William Howat, a coal miner, and Janet Findlay. Though the address given was Henrietta St, Galston, in both the 1851 and 1861 Censuses William Howat and his family were living in Howie’s Square. This was situated near the Railway Station at Galston and was the property of Mr Howie, Newhouse, Hurlford. Much of Grace’s early life was documented on previous pages.
