1841 Census
At the time of the 1841 Census William and Elizabeth and their first child Edward Green were living in Mill Lane in Cambridge. William was working as a
clerk. He was to remain in Mill Lane for the rest of his life (until 1889). He worked for Foster Brothers* for over 50 years!

* Foster Brothers
Ebenezer Foster and Richard Foster were brothers and merchants who owned a number of mills and founded a
bank.
The Foster family were also actively involved in local politics. In addition to being Alderman, members
of the family were Mayor of Cambridge on seven occasions between 1836 and 1862:
