1871 Census Charles Blake continued to work as a glass cutter in Bethnal Green, in Cheshire Street and later in Mape Street. There are puzzling aspects of the 1871 and 1881 Censuses. I can’t find evidence for the birth of a Thomas Blake (aged 6 according to the 1871 Census) or Joseph S Blake (aged 17 in the 1881 Census). However, there is documentation for Samuel Joseph Blake who was born on 16 Mar 1865 to parents Charles John Blake and wife Mary Ann. It seems that these could be the same person with confusion/errors in the Census results. In subsequent censuses and records this person appears as just Samuel Blake. On his marriage certificate Samuel Blake gives his father as Charles Blake, glass cutter which provides some evidence for this theory being correct, rather than a major genealogical research error. Charles John Blake died in the fourth quarter of 1890, aged 60, in Bethnal Green. Mary Ann Blake continued to live at 43 Mape St until her death, aged 83, in 1910. The 1891 and 1901 Censuses show that the house was shared with other families.
