In 1891 Charles Wilkins was working as a labourer in a colliery.
Three years later in the fourth quarter of 1894 Charles Wilkins married Lucy Moore in the district of Ashby de la Zouch. Lucy appears to have been the
youngest of nine children born to Samuel Moore and his wife Eliza (née Crecraft). In 1871 Samuel Moore (1826 - 1915) was a Master Brickmaker
employing 7 men and 14 boys and in the 1891 Census, when he was 65, he is still recorded as an Employer.
1901 Census
By 1901 Charles and Lucy Wilkins had produced at least five children and Charles was working as a 'Stationary Engine Driver, Underground' in a colliery.
Lucy’s father Samuel Moore lived next door and is described as a 'Brick Maker Buckearth' and an 'Employer'. In the house on the other side lived Lucy’s
brother John Moore who was a 'Colliery Engine Driver'. They all lived on Moore Street, Overseal which can’t be found on modern maps.
