Ann McCrae (c1836 - aft 1911) Ann McCrae was born in ca 1836 and was baptised in New Cumnock. The baptism presumably took place in the ‘new’ church built in 1833. The baptism was not straight-forward. Ann McRae’s parents are stated to be William McCrae and Margaret Hyslop. This couple were also listed as Ann’s parents on her marriage record 20 years later. They were not married and ‘took upon discipline’ from the Kirk session in March 1836, i.e. were reprimanded for having a child out of wedlock. The baptism was then presumably allowed.
