At some point (presumably about 1914/15) Robert moved back to the north
east where he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers (ca 1916?). There
were a shocking number of Robert Johnsons on active service in the First
World War, many of whom did not survive. It was only the Service Number,
on a medal in my possession, which enabled the correct record to be found.
