1861 Census
William Harlington and his wife were still in South Street at the time of the 1861 Census. His birth-place is given as Elland, Yorkshire which poses a bit
of a problem.
Elland is a market town in Calderdale, in the county of West Yorkshire, England. It is almost 50 miles from Goole and is probably not the stated
birthplace of William Harlington. More likely is Ealand which is near the Lincolnshire-Yorkshire border, about 7 miles south of Goole and 20 miles east
of Burghwallis. Thorne is about 6 miles west of Ealand and they are linked by the Stainforth and Keadby Canal.
William Harlington died in Goole in 1867 and was buried on 3 Oct 1867.
I have been unable to find Mary Harlington in the 1871 Census though she died in December of that year.
This partial family tree illustrates the links we need to follow to connect to the modern day.
