George Bagshaw (1834 - 1869)
George Bagshaw was one of the younger children of William and Hannah Bagshaw. Two sons born earlier had also been called George but neither
lived longer than 15 months.
In the 1851 Census George was the only child still living at home. At age 16 he was apprentice to a wine merchant. In later years George would become
a wine merchant and eventually run Killingley & Co. Wine Vaults with his brother Edwin.
Killingley and Co were Wine Merchants on Smithy Row in Nottingham. Their premises were
demolished in 1926 to make way for the Council House which was built between 1927 and
1929.
George Bagshaw married Marian Kilbourne Wells on 26 May 1859 in Nottingham. She was the daughter of Charles Wells, a schoolmaster, and
Elizabeth Wells (née Kilbourne).
George and Marian had two children both of whom died young : George Wells Bagshaw (born Q1 1860, died 2 Jul 1874 - aged 14) and Maria Ellen
Bagshaw (born 1862, died 1867 - aged 4/5).

The following years were tragically eventful for Marian K Bagshaw. Her daughter Maria died in 1867, her husband died in March 1869 and her father
Charles Wells died suddenly in August of the same year. Her son George died in 1874. Both adults got significant write-ups in the local newspapers.
