Francis Dronfield (1845 - 1922)
Francis Dronfield was one of at least eight children born to William Dronfield and Mary Ann Turton. He was born in Staveley in 1845 and was baptised
on 13 April of that year.
At the age of 25 he married Ellen Hunt who was six years his junior.
Later that year Ellen gave birth to the couple’s first child, Mary Dronfield. Mary does not feature in the 1881 Census so presumably died young.

An ENGINE TENTER or TENTER is someone who is in charge of machinery, usually in a factory. The word is closely related to the word "tend" so he is someone
who "tends, or looks after” the engine.
